Did you know about the Men’s Day in Russia? Yes, Russian men have their own special day dedicated to them!
There is a also a Women’s Day (8 March), when ladies are celebrated.
23 February is unofficial Men’s Day in Russia, Belarus
It is a public holiday and it’s only celebrated in Russia and Belarus, but not in Ukraine or Kazakhstan.
The official name of this holiday is “The Defender of the Fatherland Day”, which supposed to mean the people who served in the military. But since in Russia and Belarus all men have to serve in army once they turn 18 (it’s compulsory), this is why each male is viewed as a defender of the homeland.
In Soviet Union this holiday was celebrated, too, but it wasn’t a day off work, while Women’s Day 8 March was. Now the injustice is fixed and males also have their own holiday when they don’t have to go to work.
In 2019, however, even though 23 February is on Saturday, Monday 25 February is still a regular working day. The day off is moved to Friday 10 May, when it’s added to a longer weekend of 4 non-working days in a row: 9 to 12 May.

P.S. Don’t forget about the Women’s Day 8 March! It’s a really important holiday for females from the post-USSR countries, including Ukraine. If you fail to extend your greetings on that date, she will pretty much assume you are not that interested in her… Because if you were really interested, you would know!
