The fact that PayPal doesn’t work in Ukraine is inconvenient. It would be a great way to send a gift to a Ukrainian girlfriend, for instance. Ukrainians also would love to be able to be able to pay electronically using the widely popular payment system, as opposed to having multiple accounts in various e-banks that are accepted by some websites but not by others.
Recently Dmytro Dubilet, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers in the government of Volodymyr Zelensky, explained why the world’s preferred electronic payment system doesn’t function in Ukraine.
The reason why PayPal doesn’t work in Ukraine
According to Finance.ua, Dmytro Dubilet explained the reason for that in a recent interview. PayPal simply doesn’t see perspectives for itself in the Ukrainian market, since it’s very small.
The reason isn’t in some kind of prohibitive bans for the payment system to start functioning in the Ukrainian electronic space, the minister pointed out.
There are no restrictions or obstacles for PayPal in Ukraine, from the point of view of the legislation, Dubilet explained. At the same time, the minister expressed his view than the electronic payment system will start functioning locally, following improvements in the economy.
Alexander Bevz, the director of the Department of licensing of the National Bank of Ukraine has spoken earlier about his readiness to approve PayPal’s application to work on the Ukrainian market. He also stated that it is the company’s decision not to start operations in Ukraine and not some obstacles created by the officials.
There are various electronic wallets that are available to locals and accepted by some websites. Most people who make online purchases have to have several different ones, since not all websites accept certain types of such wallets.
