Travelling solo is apparently the most preferred option among Russian tourists, a poll by a ticket booking site Tutu.ru revealed. “I prefer to travel by myself” was the most popular option with 28% of respondents picking it.
Most Russians tour in a company, although solo travel is gaining popularity
Even though travelling alone scored the highest among other variants, most people in Russia still have a company going on vacations away.
- The second most popular option of trip companionship was with one’s partner. 21% of respondents, or 1 in 5, usually go away with the boyfriend or girlfriend (husband or wife).
- 13% of participants usually go away with their friends.
- 12% of respondents tour as a family (partner + kids).
- 11% of users usually just take kids on vacations (possibly, those are single parents).
- 6% of participants said they most often go on trips with family members who are aged 18+ (grownups, as opposed to kids).
- Only 2% of respondents most frequently travel with their colleagues. (Possibly, they are travel bloggers?)
Solo travel in Russia
Russia is a relatively safe country for tourists, with locals often taking hikes in the woods on weekends for fun. Spending several days in the woods with friends is something anyone can do and doesn’t require a large budget.
There are many advantages to solo journeys.
- Going to all the places one wishes to see.
- No need to consult anyone.
- Ability to change plans at any time at whim.
- Doing only the things one wants to do.
- Peace and quiet.
- It can be cheaper, as many hosts on platforms like Couch Surfing prefer singles to groups, so it’s possible to stay in some places free of charge.
The option of vacationing by oneself is less secure, this is why solo travellers typically join online groups, where they keep an eye on each other.
There are many Russian girls who love travelling by themselves and have seen dozens of countries, even though their income isn’t high. Because of conveniences that communities of single travellers have via Internet, it’s easier than ever to see the world.
