Ukrainian students will complete the year 2020 on schedule, despite the quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemics, Segodnya.ua reported.
Graduating in times of coronavirus
Ukrainian schools and universities had been closed due to quarantine on 12 March 2020. But students continued their studies online.
From 6 April, 40 teachers from Kiev became online lecturers for all Ukrainian school students. School students were able to watch lectures online.
Universities had an easier time switching to online education than schools. Most universities had already utilized web-based tools in their processes. Many lectures were available as videos. Moodle had already been used prior to quarantine.
Zoom and Microsoft Teams are also popular among lecturers.
The students who are not graduating this year will finish their studies as according to the earlier plans. Exams and assignments would become virtual. If it’s impossible to conduct the tests virtually, then they could be moved to the next year.
The study year starts in Ukraine in September and ends in May-June. This year schools had been given a leeway to decide on their own end of term date, but it cannot be later than 1 July 2020. Some schools reported they will be able to complete the school year by the end of May, as usual.
Kids in grades 4 and 9 won’t have to pass the regular state exams this year.
But the regular unified tests, as designed by the state educational program for school graduates will still take place. There are several exams that high school graduates have to pass.
- If the quarantine ends by June, then the exams will start at the end of June and finish by mid-July.
- If the quarantine is extended until August, then the exams will start in mid-August and end in mid-September.
The entry exams to universities in Ukraine would be moved to match the schedule.
University graduates also will be able to pass exams and tests online, except for the final “united state exam”. How the final state exams will be conducted is still not 100% clear.
