Fines for using mobile phones while driving in Ukraine
Facebook page named “Road Lawyer” is popular among drivers in Ukraine, providing legal assistance and updated information on traffic rules. Finance.ua checked the current cost of breaking the rules in regard to the use of mobile devices while driving.
Statistics show that a very low percentage of Ukrainian motorists pull over to take a phone call or text.
“Limitations are implemented due to a sharp increase of the incidents on the road because during communication on the phone driver’s reaction slows down”.
Drivers who can’t resist the urge to take a call on the road have to pay fines.
- 475 hryvnia (USD 19) if the conversation on the phone did not cause any consequences.
- 680 hryvnia (USD 27) or revocation of driver’s license from 6 months to 1 year if the actions forced other traffic participants to change the speed, direction or to take other safety measures.
If the driver lost the licence, he or she can only get it back after completing a theoretical and practical test once again, as well as undertaking a medical exam on fitness to drive.
