In the last two decades Russians started to travel around the globe much more than they ever could during the Soviet times. But there are places brave men and women from Russia are hesitant to visit, based on reports they have heard.
The scariest country to visit for Russians
A recent survey by Tutu.ru with over 5,000 answers revealed a surprising list of scariest destinations to travel to for users in Russia.
- You may be greatly surprised which country users from Russia are most hesitant to tour. It’s Ukraine! 21% of respondents mentioned it as the place which they decided to skip on going to because of reports.
- The second scariest place to travel to for Russian tourists is even more unexpected: It’s Russia itself! 18% of travellers heard reports and changed their minds about visiting some destination.
- Pakistan scored 17% of refusals, while the decision about touring India was reversed by 14% of travellers.
- Abkhazia, the territory that is official recognized as a part of Georgia, but has been a matter of disputes between this country and Russia, is a scary place to visit for 11% of Russian respondents. Georgia itself seems too scary to travel to as well: 7% of survey participants decided to stay away.
Other countries that tourists had chosen to avoid:
- Mexico: 5%
- Turkmenistan: 3%
- China: 3%
- Romania: 1%
Nowadays propaganda seems to have been gaining momentum in the Russian Federation, with the list of scariest places to visit being apparently political, rather than making sense based on advice from experienced travellers. Many people believe that citizens of Russia could be facing threats in such locations, due to the current geopolitical situation.
