According to a recent study, learning music as a child helps a person to succeed in this field.
Musicians start learning music early
People can learn different skills at any time in their lives, but music is best to be learned as a child, according to a recent study.
Laura Wesseldijk from Karolinska Institute (Sweden) believes that it’s not the early start itself that is the most important factor in development of a great musician, but rather the combination of family influence and genes. Families that love music create an atmosphere in which a future musician can thrive.
Looking at professional musicians, researchers were able to confirm that early start in practicing music was linked to aptitude, Science Daily reported.
Musical talent and interest in music are determined by genetic factors, scientists point out. The family environment filled with music is nurturing of the musical talent.
But if you have no talent in music, an early start won’t make you a great musician, researchers believe. Obviously, a child who studies music would be able to play and instrument or sing, but without genetic predisposition this won’t provide much benefit to scoring high as a musician.
It could be also that kids showing talent in music are given the chance to practice it and encouraged by families and schools.
One thing the research was able to confirm that there is definitely a link between the early start and musical proficiency, although the key isn’t in the early start itself. But if the talent to music in a child is present, early practice could lead to becoming a successful musician.
