The pandemics changed the labour market in Ukraine in unexpected ways, and it’s not just some temporary limitations due to quarantine, but rather a cultural and technological shift.
How labour marker in Ukraine has changed since the start of pandemics
According to Segodnya.ua, pandemics sped up the trends that were already present in the market.
- More demand for automation of routine processes
- Retraining of personnel
- Growing demand for niche specialists
- More demand for personnel in new and forming sectors of economy from global companies
For obvious reasons, health care and IT jumped to the forefront of development. At the same time, tourism and hospitality are on the losing side.
In Ukraine, working remotely from home is becoming more popular. However, office workers are still not ready to completely dedicate themselves to working from home and prefer to go to office 1-2 days a week.
Creating a healthy balance between work and relaxation at home is the major challenge for the remote personnel. There is always work to do and some people tend to spend more hours solving tasks.
Another aspect of the change may seem surprising: People tend to hold onto their jobs, even though they work remotely and not from offices. Most employees wish to keep their existing job and maintain stability. Experts believe this trend will continue in 2021.
It’s possible that some employees will decide to change the place where they live and leave cities for suburbs where life is less stressful and homes are cheaper.
Many companies in Ukraine had to cut losses and fire a lot of people due to sudden drop in demand. Unemployment, which was already a problem in the country, jumped into double digits. Experts predict that in the best case scenario unemployment will drop to 9%-9.2% by the end of 2021.
