Parents who love each other indirectly influence their children’s lives. Kids whose parents loved each other stay longer at school and marry at a more mature age.
Love between parents affects kids’ choices in life
Scientists from the University of Quebec analyzed the link between parents’ affection and kids’ choices in life at a later stage. Data from 151 neighborhoods in Nepal were used in the study.
In the study, married parents were asked about the level of affection with their partner and how much they loved the spouse. Interviews were done separately with each spouse.
Then the researchers followed kids of these parents for 12 years, documenting their educational achievements and marital status. As the researchers found, kids of parents who reported loving their partners a lot or somewhat stayed at school longer and married later in life.
Talking about the reasons why love between parents forms lives of kids in this way, scientists propose that this could be because kids living in a happy home environment don’t need to escape into a marriage. Happy parents, possibly, invest into kids more, and this is why children stay at school longer.
Thus, even in countries like Nepal where arranged marriages were a norm until some 50 years ago, love in a marriage has a strong influence on children’s future. Love isn’t just some irrelevant factor in a marriage, but a strong contributor to children’s better future.
