Sleep is essential to stay healthy and live longer, another research confirmed. People who are morning risers and sleep at least 7-8 hours daily, don’t have problems with insomnia or snoring, and don’t feel sleepy during the day, have the least risk of heart attacks.
Sleeping your way to a longer life
A recent study by the American Heart Association confirmed that people with healthy sleeping habits have a substantially lower risk of heart problems as compared to those with unhealthy sleep patterns.
The group without problem sleep patterns had shown 42% less chance of ending with a heart failure.
What patterns are viewed as healthy?
- Getting up in the morning
- Sleeping 7-8 hours per day
- No regular insomnia
- No snoring
- No regular napping during the day
The study considered data of over 400,000 individuals who answered questions and looked at how the sleeping patterns and the risk of heart problems were related. Participants were aged 37-73 when they took part in the study. During the 10-year follow up, over 5,000 cases of heart failure were recorded.
Daytime napping showed the worst link to potential issues with 34% lower risk for those who don’t feel like napping during the day.
People who don’t suffer insomnia have 17% lower risk of cardiovascular issues than those who do.
Sleeping for 7-8 hours gives 12% less chance of a heart failure, while early rising lowers the risk by 8%.
