Foreigners driving their cars in Ukraine used to be able to get away with speeding, but this is going to end soon. A new system will send information to the border control and citizens of other countries will have to pay speeding fines before leaving or face possible ban on entry to Ukraine.
Foreigners will no longer be able to get away with speeding on Ukrainian roads
People living in regions of Russia close to the Ukrainian border could get in and out and any misdemeanours on the road were hard to punish. The new system that should be soon operational is supposed to stop it, according to Finance.ua.
The system will monitor cars with foreign number plates. Oftentimes Ukrainians drive cars registered in Europe, without changing the registration, and also using this loophole.
The cars with foreign registration entering Ukraine will be instantly included in the database, as well as the details of the drivers.
Speeding cameras that register a breach will send the information to the border patrol. The driver would have to pay the fine when exiting the country. If the fine isn’t paid, then such violators may be refused entry the next time they cross the border to Ukraine.
Recently we reported that DUI in Ukraine was upgraded to criminal offence from an administrative misdemeanour. Obviously, such breaches will be also monitored and foreign citizens are obliged to follow the rules. The limit on Ukrainian roads is 0.2 promille.
