Salary is the only source of income for most Ukrainians. In Ukraine people are still getting monthly salaries as opposed to hourly wages.
A recent poll by Research & Branding Group revealed that the dream monthly salary for Ukrainians is around 20 thousand hryvnia (USD 720), Finance.ua reported.
How much money people in Ukraine wish to earn?
Most people in Ukraine aren’t happy with the amount of money they earn as salaries.
Officially the average monthly wage in Ukraine in the third quarter of 2020 was 11,750 hryvnia (USD 420) although according to the data of the pension fund of Ukraine it was a bit lower: 10,887 hryvnia (about USD 400).
The difference could be explained by the data collection method: Government’s numbers are based on companies with 10 employees or more, while the pension fund just gives the averages as per people’s contributions. Pensions in Ukraine are still being paid by the government, which gets contributions from employers, based on the size of salaries of the employed personnel.
Although the average number of the dream monthly salary came to 20 thousand hryvnia (USD 720), according to the poll, the wishes of respondents differ greatly.
Some people indicated they would be happy with the wage of 5,000 hryvnia (USD 180) per month, while others wish for a monthly pay check of 100 thousand hryvnia (USD 3,590). But the majority of participants wished for a salary of 10-25 thousand hryvnia (USD 360-900).
In 2019 the dream salary was 19,300 hryvnia.
Women wish for lower wages than men
The average number among males came to 22,000 hryvnia ($790) as opposed to females’ 18,900 hryvnia ($680).
- Older respondents desire less than younger workers: 16,1 thousand UAH ($578) for the mature group as opposed to 23,000 UAH ($825) among employees ages 30-39.
- People in regional cities want on average 23,1 thousand UAH, while residents of small towns and villages are happy with 17,2 thousand UAH.
- Ukrainians living in eastern regions near the border with Russia desire higher wages than people from western regions near Poland: 22,600 vs. 18,600 hryvnia. Residents of central regions dream of wages around 20,000 UAH.
