Finding one’s “second half” is promoted as an absolutely necessary thing in Russia, especially for females, who are ingrained from the early age that a woman’s happiness is in her family. But what is the best place to find someone for a serious relationship, according to Russians?

The best way to find love

WCIOM, the All Russian Research Centre of Public Opinion ran a poll in February 2020 and the top option to find one’s “second half” is still to connect via mutual friends: 48% of respondents think so. Although it’s dropping: 63% of survey participants thought so in 2013.

• The second best place, in the opinion of Russians, is to start a relationship with someone you work or study together (30%).
• Internet is only #6 place where people from Russia would look for a match: Only 12% of respondents think it’s worth it.
• Before the Internet, they would rather try to chat a stranger in the street (15%), in a theatre or on a concert (13%). Dance classes or some other place like courses of foreign languages, where people are connected through a mutual interest, is viewed as a good option to find potential mates by 15%.
• Fitness clubs seem like a suitable option to 8% of participants; the same share of users (8%) believe it’s possible to meet someone amazing in a library.
• Only 6% of participants think a bar would be a good place to look for love, while further 4% don’t wish to limit their options and simply stated, “anywhere“.
• Public transport appears to be a great place to introduce oneself to 3% of respondents, and 1% of users pointed to movie theatres as the location to score grounds for a match.

In the meantime, 13% of interviewees bailed out and said it was too hard a question to answer.

Where do Russians actually meet their partners?

The second question was about the facts of life rather than guesses. The interviewees were asked if they had a significant other at the present time, and if yes, where did they meet him or her.

25% of respondents said they didn’t have a “second half” (that’s the official name for soul mate in Russia).

• From the remaining 75%, 1 in 4 (27%) indeed connected through mutual friends.
• Further 24% met at work or the place of study.
• 7% of respondents managed to introduce themselves to each other in the street.
• 5% of participants met online on the Internet.
• 4% of survey takers found love in bars.
• 2% of people connected with the second half through mutual interests (dance classes, language courses, etc).

A few locations scored 1% of fateful meetings each: libraries, public transport, concerts and theatres, and fitness clubs. 1% of respondents met the partner during a vacation away, and 1% were neighbours.

Obviously, the Russian women on Elenasmodels.com think that Internet is a good place to locate a match! They must belong to 12% of people who put it on their lists of good places to meet suitable candidates for serious relationships.
