‘Mail order brides’ is something out of movies, but let’s talk about this term and what is usually considered by this phrase and address the pros and cons of meeting foreign women for a long-term relationship or marriage.

I don’t believe there are any “mail order brides” left in this world. (Of course, it depends on what you mean by this term.)

If you watch news, Syrian refugees arrive in small boats to Europe with latest smart phones equipped with GPS. People travel internationally all the time, you can meet citizens from any country in your own state who visit there.

So, you can talk about meeting foreign women who seek a serious relationship that might lead to a future marriage but not mail order brides. People chat on video or text, converse on mobiles, etc. The term itself is obsolete and rarely used nowadays.

There is a sizable industry of international dating online. Women from Eastern Europe, Asia, and Latin America are eager to meet men for serious relations.

Talking about pros and cons of dating foreign women, naturally, there are both.

Pros:

1. You can meet a woman of a much higher quality than is available for you at home: Prettier, more educated, younger, with a nicer personality etc.
2. Family values in these countries are more traditional. For example, Eastern European women value relationships more because in Russia and Ukraine there are only 86 men for 100 women, so having a partner is a higher importance for girls.

4. Foreign women pay more attention to their appearance always, even after marriage. Because of the same reasons (to attract a man and keep him), ladies are used to taking care of themselves and have pride in their appearance. It continues after they get married and have kids.
5. You can discover another exciting culture. Dating foreign ladies will allow you to expand your knowledge and broaden your horizons.

Ladies from Eastern Europe continue to take care of their appearance after marriage and the birth of children.

Cons:

1. There is some travel involved for both you and her, so if you hate travelling, this may be not your piece of cake.
2. In fact, this point is often overestimated. Yes, there is some cost involved in dating a woman from another nation, but it is actually cheaper than dating locally, according to the recent research on costs of international dating vs. local. For example, the average cost of a wedding in Russia is only USD $3000 as compared with $30 thousand in the USA. Because the initial stage of courtship happens online, it is also a great saving on all the movie and dinner dates you don’t need while getting to know each other.
3. Difference in culture. The same thing that makes it attractive to be with women from Eastern Europe or another distant destination can make it complex. For example, she wants to wear pretty dresses when your friends’ wives put on shorts and T-shirts, or cook home meals when everyone else just buys takeaways. The language barrier is usually not a problem, as the majority of foreign ladies study English at schools as a compulsory subject.

In a way, you can think of meeting women from other locations in the same way as dating an Italian or Russian girl who lives in your city. The world became such a connected space after propagation of the Internet, what was yesterday seen as mail order brides, today is a regular beginning for international couples.
