Minsk, the capital of Belarus, turned 952 this year, celebrating the day of the city with plenty of festivals. One of the fixtures of this event is the “High Heel Run” where women aged 18 and over are invited to finish the distance while running in heels that are 5 cm (2 inch) or higher.
The High Heel Run
Many locations within the former Soviet Union host such fun races for ladies wanting to show off their stride.
The shoes could feature any type of sole, stiletto or platform, the only condition it should be no less than 5 cm (2 inch).
The girls admit that the most important thing is not to fall. Obviously, it’s not the most comfortable running gear, and accidents during the distance happen.
The distance is notably short: Only 50 meters (164 feet).
But it’s not easy! If you ever tried to run in high heels (why wouldn’t you?), you’d know.
Belarus women do. They often have to chase public transport if a bus is leaving, so it’s nothing special for them. Just another day in the city!
Participants had to submit applications in advance and there were three categories: One for attendees of trade schools, another for university students and employees of companies, and the third one for general public. Obviously, the event is gaining popularity, if the organizers see the need to have several categories for competitors. Winners in every category had to not only finish the distance for the fastest time, but also ensure to stay free from any violations of the code. (Did they measure the size of the heels at the finish?)
In 2018, the distance was twice as long: 100 meters (328 feet).

If you think such a jog is an accident waiting to happen, you are right. The falls do happen, this time it also wasn’t without mishaps. But the ladies still love it!
If you want to see how it looks in reality, check the video below.
The high heel run is at 3 minutes 55 seconds mark.
What would you think would be a worthy prize to try something like this? Or is it worth a try just for the fun of it?
