Ukrainians still predominantly buy apartments as homes. Houses are popular but rather unaffordable for the majority of people.

Talking about affordability, prices for apartments that are just outside of Kiev are 50% cheaper than the ones within the city borders, Finance.ua revealed.

Kiev vs. region: Apartments are 50% cheaper outside the capital

People prefer to buy within the boundaries of Kiev city, which is the location with the highest wages in the country as well. But apartments in Kiev region are gaining in popularity due to their affordability, much alike so called “The New Moscow” region which popped up recently in Russia.

A 3-room lived-in residential unit in Sofievskaya Borschagovka is priced at only USD 55,000. The same apartment when it’s renovated may cost $65-80 thousand, which is still way cheaper than units in the Ukrainian capital.

There are even cheaper options available in Kiev region, as on average the prices are 50% more affordable than in the capital.

The closer to Kiev, the more expensive, the further the cheaper. For instance, just outside the city’s boundary a 1-room unit in a new building is priced at USD 30 thousand. Drive another 10 km and it’s 5 thousand cheaper: Only $25,000. Drive a little further and you can find one for just USD 20K.

And we are talking about locations close to Kiev! Units in regional Ukraine are even cheaper could be found for less than that.

2-room units that are closest to Kiev cost $45,000, dropping to $38,000 if you drive another 10 km. A little further and you can find one for only $35,000.

In locations nearest to Kiev, a 3-room units are priced at $65,000. Drive for 10 km and pay $10K less (only USD 55,000). Further away and you may be able to score one for just $48,000.
