10 habits for 2021

1. Read books
Audio books keep getting more popular, but the true magic comes from reading books with your eyes. People with amazing life experiences that you haven’t had and knowledge that would takes you decades to accumulate share their tips and steps with you. How awesome is that?

2. Start small to create and improve you fitness routine
Exercise is the longevity pill that is available for free. If you aren’t doing much of it, beginning with 30 or 60 minutes of intense workout isn’t going to work. Begin with something that is achievable. Do some easy stretches or 10 push-ups. Go for a 15-minute walk. Climb 2 sets of stairs. And then build up on that.
3. Have a “To do” list
Not having a list of things to do decreases the amount of goals you can pursue at the same time and makes you less effective. The best memory in the word isn’t as reliable as a pen.
Once you have a list, set priorities and make sure to work on your #1 priority task at least 30 minutes a day, even if it’s just planning and learning how to get it done. Best still, put at least 5 minutes of practical work towards this #1 priority goal daily. You will be surprised how fast it will accumulate and move you towards the goal.
4. Plan some calming time
What kind of day you want to have daily? Probably, not an exhausting one. This is also a sure-fire way to a burnout, which means you may lose everything you have achieved and more. In our busy times, planning some “me” time and calming activities is essential.
Maybe, you can start your days with an enjoyable physical activity like walking with a friend (or listen to your favourite podcast while walking) and finish with an hour of relaxation before the bed time, like reading a book. Things can be both relaxing and useful, you know.
5. Learn some extra skills
If 2020 taught us something, it was not to take anything for granted. Learn some skills that would be required in any circumstances, which would help the community as well as improve your chances of getting a job, if you need one.
6. Make breaks
Your effectiveness decreases when you work non-stop. Get up every 45 minutes of work (use your stop watch) and go for a short walk, do some squats or push ups. Drink a glass of water. Massage your shoulders. Do some quick stretches.
It will reset your brain connections and help you to be sharper. Try it.
7. Own it
Take 100% responsibility for your own actions and result. Don’t blame circumstances or others, even if there was some influence.
Get a review at the end of every day and weekly and see how you are moving on the list of the things to do and big priorities. Be honest with yourself. Think about what works and what doesn’t, and do more of the things that work, and replace the things that don’t work with something that might give you the result you hope for. Keep trying until you find something that works!
8. Control your emotions
One of the best skills that allows people to achieve great results in life is managing their own emotions. You are able to dial up or down your emotion just as you are able to bring up the heat or turn it down.
Use word for that: “I am a bit peeved” instead of “I am angry”, or “I am so excited” instead of “I am terrified”. Give your emotions the level where you wish them to be. Intensity positive emotions and tone down negative ones. It will make you feel way better and calmer.
9. Congratulate yourself on small victories
When you manage to achieve what you set for yourself, even if it’s a small thing, give yourself a pat on the back. Savour the journey to success. Enjoy the ride!

Do what you can, when you are able to. Whatever you want to achieve, you surely can manage to do it for 5 minutes, even if you totally fail the first time. But keep trying and you will succeed one day. If someone can do it, so can you.
