Plane tickets can cost you a lot or much less, depending on when you purchase. Experts shared tips to buy cheap tickets.
Travel advice: Buy when tickets are the cheapest
Purchasing tickets at the right time is the key to saving big time, travel expert Kelly Soderlund points out.
Flights that take off mid-week in the middle of the day will be cheaper than the ones taking off Friday afternoon after 5 pm.
- Long-haul routes will be cheaper if you book 2-4 months in advance.
- Short trips could be booked 3-9 weeks in advance.
It’s possible to save up to 30% of the ticket price if you don’t take luggage on a short trip. Grab only the minimum and use lightweight clothing, as it could also make a big difference, if you are able to pack everything in your carry-on.
Another expert, Pauline Frommer, advises to book flights 5-6 weeks in advance. In any case, it’s obvious that travelling on budget requires careful budgeting.
The same is applicable when choosing accommodation. Hotels offer discounts when tourists are reserving rooms in advance and you have a greater selection. Closer to the date, there are fewer options and cheaper rooms tend to get booked faster.
If you are visiting your online girlfriend, it could be more affordable to meet in another country than for her fly to visit you or vice versa. Many hotels in Turkey offer “all inclusive” packages with meals and accommodation covered that are more than affordable. This is the reason why Russian and Ukrainian tourists frequent Turkey.
