Speaking in a foreign language makes a person more agreeable and less emotional, scientists have proven once again. In other words, people are able to view the situation much less biased when speaking in a language that is not native to them.
Advantages of being in a relationships with someone whose first language is not the same
You may have never thought about it until now, but there are many advantages to international relationships that go beyond just looks.
Of course, most English-speaking men who come to Elenamodels.com with a view to find a long-term partner are aware of different values of Eastern European women with the strong emphasis on family. But this is not the only advantage of dating ladies from Russia, Ukraine, or Belarus.
Scientists from Koc University tested several groups on their behaviour patterns, and how much the fact of speaking in a second language influences emotional biases.
The psychological pattern known as “the endowment effect” occurs when a person assigns a too high value to things they own. Thus, the valuations of the item by the owner and a potential buyer are too far apart. What the scientists found out, once the discussions about purchasing the item were conducted in a foreign language, the sellers had shown much less emotional bias to parting with the item.
- In the first study, people who spoke Spanish as the second language were asked to indicate how much would they want to get for a mug they owned if they needed to sell it. One group was negotiating in English (their first language) and the one group in Spanish (their second language). The sellers were asking more if negotiating in the native language. But the ones negotiating in the second language, were more open to accepting the buyer’s price.
- The second experiment included people whose native language was Turkish and English was the second language they could speak. Just like with the first two groups, people who were negotiating in their native language were more reluctant to accept the buyer’s price, while others who talked the sale through in their non-native language, were more agreeable with prospective buyers.
So, when you enter an international relationship, what you might have thought about as a language barrier, could be actually helpful in managing your relations.
