Statistics: 65% drop in divorces in Moscow due to pandemics
It’s not all doom and gloom: The pandemics led to some unexpected positive swing in dynamics of marriages in Russia.
A giant slump in divorce rates in Moscow was recorded in April 2020: The number of couples who resolved to dissolve their marriages dropped by 65%, Moslenta reported.
At the same time among couples who planned weddings for April 2020, only 30% resolved to move their celebrations to later dates.
Altogether, there were 24% fewer weddings in Moscow in April 2020 as compared to 2019.
The statistics of divorces and marriages was revealed by officials from ZAGS, the Russian department of registrations of civil statuses.
There were 5.9 thousand applications for nuptials in April in the city of Moscow. Most of these couples didn’t cancel their weddings but simply resolved to wait until later in summer or autumn, to have a proper celebration they dreamed about. About 4000 couples decided not to wait and got married as planned.
However, the weddings were different in April 2020: No kissing, no guests, no photographers, and no restaurant receptions.
