The most deserving winner of 2020 Oscars for the best picture is ‘Joker’, according to a recent poll. Nearly 37% of respondents picked it as their favourite.

It’s this time of the year again and 2020 Academy Awards for achievements in the motion picture arts industry are literally days away. The whole world is watching and betting, trying to predict who will take home golden statues. Nowhere is the competition as tough as in the last award of the night to be presented, the best movie of the year. Ukrainians, too, are curious about the most prominent awards ceremony, trying to cast their predictions.

A poll by a Ukrainian online portal revealed which films managed to draw people’s preferences in 2020.

1. Ukrainians feel that ‘Joker’ is the most deserving film to win the top honours, with nearly 37% of Ukrainian votes given to this unexpectedly dark franchise prequel.
2. The poll by Segodnya.ua placed ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ as the second favourite, with 18% of voters considering it worthy of the top award.
3. ‘1917’ scored 13.5% of preferences, giving it the third place in the rating.
4. ‘Ford v Ferrari‘ scored 11% of votes.
5. ‘Parasite’ could be the one to take the golden statue, 8.5% of Ukrainian respondents believe.
6. 6% of poll participants expect ‘The Irishman’ to score.
7. ‘Jojo Rabbit’ is seen as a potential winner by 2.25% of voters.
8. The same share of respondents are placing bets on ‘Little Women’.
9. ‘Marriage Story’ is the last on the list, with only 0.9% of respondents choosing it as a potential winner.

However, the Academy Awards aren’t a popularity contest, so the winner in the Best Picture category may surprise the most.

Betting sites have a different rating, with 1917 leading the pack, followed by Parasite, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and ‘Joker’.

The chances of other films are estimated much lower. ‘The Irishman’ and ‘Jojo Rabbit’ may still hold a slim chance, while ‘Little Women’ and ‘Marriage Story” seem less than likely to score the top prize. ‘Ford v Ferrari’ is an outsider that basically no one believes in.

Other sources tout the underdog ‘1917’ as their secret tip to win, which could make punters reconsider.

However, even though Joker isn’t the favourite to take the best movie award, its star Joaquin Phoenix seems to have secured the Best Actor prize. Anyone else taking the statue in this category would be a surprise.
