10 ways to feel better quickly
Sometimes we all feel a bit down, so knowing how to cheer up quickly may help. Here are some tips from KP.ua.
1. Find out what causes you to feel down and remove the cause
Sometimes we feel bad and don’t even understand what caused it. Go back through your day to the start and think what happened that might have been the reason for feeling down. Did you feel this way when you woke up this morning? Or did it start the day before?
Sometimes you may be surprised to find the actual cause that started it. Maybe a guy who cut you off in the traffic set the mood for the day or something else that doesn’t really matter. It happens! Or was it a friend or a loved one that you had a meaningless fight with?
Once you realize that the actual cause wasn’t something global, the solution could be obvious: Apologize to the loved one (even if he or she is wrong), so that you can patch it up and move on. You will feel better straight away.
2. Do something kind
There are plenty of people who are worse off in life as compared to you. In fact, more than half of the world for sure!
Psychologists say that helping someone in need instantly makes a person feel better. Make a small donation to a charity or compliment a cashier on her beautiful smile. It’s easy and simple, and it works!
3. Breathe deeply
Shallow breath makes us anxious, while deep breathing allows to relax. Breath in deeply, keep the air in for 3-5 seconds, and then breath out fully, imagining your worries and bad mood to go away with it. Concentrate on your breathing and let the thoughts to go away. This is a simple and effective way to feel better.
4. Go for a walk
Walking is a type of physical exercise, which promotes creation of happy hormones in your body. Movement helps you feel better just because your body works this way.
5. Decorate your home or office
No need to go full on: A simple item that you really like, placed strategically where your eyes usually look, will help to feel better every time you see it.
If you feel like it, rearrange or replace the furniture, add some decor. It’s amazing how small changes in your environment can lift up your mood.
6. Make your own “relaxation set”
A comfy chair with a blanket or throw, a book, a cup of hot chocolate… If you feel down, get out your relaxation set and the bad mood will have no chance to settle.
7. Express your thoughts on paper
Motivation experts and psychologists agree that the process of writing your thoughts or goals down helps to make things right. Whether you are trying to express your emotions or set plans for the future, writing helps.
8. Top up your Vitamin D
If you are not spending much time on the sun, your body may be lacking vitamin D, which could cause you feel down. Get some fish oil supplements or get some sun exposure. Research shows that even when you use SPF lotions, you still get vitamin D if you spend some time in the sun.
9. Spend time with loved ones
Spending time with close family members or trusted friends is a great way to feel better. Not only you can talk and discuss things, but simply doing something together that you enjoy helps to feel more alive.
10. Take a break
Sometimes you could be just tired and exhausted, and all you need is rest. Take some time out, go for a weekend away or a short vacation, recuperate and reenergize.
Make time to do nothing! This may help you to feel happier quickly.
