From 1 November 2018 Ukrainians can obtain an ID-card instead of a passport.
ID cards to replace passports in Ukraine
Ukrainians used to have a local and a foreign passport in the form of a book with pages. In western countries a driver license was used for ID-purposes and passport was only required for trips abroad.
Now Ukraine is moving in the direction of outdating the need for a local document with pages and will be using small plastic ID-cards.
Such cards had been introduced in January 2016 but they were only available for people who were required to obtain a passport for the first time. People who lost their local ID-document also were issued the card of the new type instead of a book.
Now all citizens are able to exchange the ID-document of the outdated format to the new one.
The cards are issued to citizens from the age of 14.
- The application fee for to get an ID-card is 279 hryvnia (around USD 10).
- It can be obtained at any local centre providing administrative services.
- It takes up to 20 days to get the document issued.
Soon citizens of Ukraine will also call documents for travelling abroad ‘passports’ instead of having 2 such books: One for the local use and the other one for trips to other countries .
International dating made easy
Citizens of Ukraine are able to visit countries of the European Union without obtaining an entry visa since June 2017. This ability definitely sped up introductions with European men for Ukrainian girls who can easily visit their virtual boyfriends for a weekend or a short vacation. Cheap tickets to Europe are available via several airlines with trips by train or bus also being popular among locals.
Americans and Europeans don’t need a visa to visit Ukraine. Citizens of other nations are able to obtain a visa on arrival at Kiev airport or apply online beforehand.
