Food is a part of travelling experience, but some tourists from Russia bring their own food with them when going for a holiday, a recent poll revealed.
What do Russians eat when travelling?
Having a breakfast in a hotel and enjoy a lunch and dinner somewhere else is the most popular option among Russian tourists: 33% or 1 in 3 people take this option.
18% or 1 in 5 loves to think about food as little as possible, and buys “all inclusive” packages that are popular in resorts of Turkey and Egypt, two destinations that are famous among Russian travellers.
16% of tourists from Russia buy local produce and cook and about the same share of visitors bring products from home to save on costs, apparently.
10% of holiday makers simply eat in restaurants and cafes, while further 8% of respondents indicated their preference for meals cooked in the street or fast food outlets.
The value of Russian ruble dropped in recent months, so the question of meals during trips isn’t a trivial one. People have to think about it when purchasing tickets to places, even if it’s within their own country.
Some young travellers to Europe may even simply purchase bread and margarine in local stores to eat during trips, while staying in the cheapest hostels. This is how some Russian women manage to see the world on the tight budget. They skip on luxuries and go for experiences that are free or low cost.
