Ukrainians have a lot of cash in their hands and banks. There are 70 notes and nearly 300 coins per capita, according to the latest data by the National Bank of Ukraine.
Ukraine counts its cash
The National Bank of Ukraine completed the annual calculation of cash and determined which banknotes are the most used.
The latest data, provided by 112 Ukraine, suggests that in Ukraine as at the beginning of 2018 the amount of cash in circulation is estimated to be 361.5 billion hryvnias (USD $12.7 billion). The statistics is supplied by the press office of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The numbers are sure to be the highest compared to prior years. It was also pointed out by the Bank’s representatives that as of the 1st January 2018 the amount of cash in hands and banks is accounted as such:
- 98 billion bills amounting to 359.4 billion hryvnias (USD $12.6 billion),
- 97 billion coins valued at 2.07 billion hryvnias (USD $0.01 billion).
Banknotes in use
Among the most used notes this year were 200-hryvnia bills (29%) along with 1-hryvnia bill (19%).
As to the coins, 10 kopiykas and 1 kopiyka take the lead, accounting for nearly 30% and 19% respectively.
There are 70 bills and 293 coins per capita, if we look at the total. Which means, each Ukrainian is in possession of about 70 banknotes and nearly 300 coins!
All in all, the statistics showed a rapid enough growth rate in terms of turnover. The current amount of cash in Ukraine is 6% higher than in the beginning of the last year.
Earlier we reported that Ukrainians would rather keep their pension savings in a jar under the bed at home than trust their savings to institutions such as government of private funds. Now you know how much cash they actually accumulate in those jars.
